Participation of Faculty and Students at National Voters Day Celebrations


The 10th National Voters’ Day was celebrated by the staff and students of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh today. ‘Prashasnika’, the Society of Departments of Public Administration and Political Science organised a series of events. The commemoration invited a wide participation of students of all the streams. Dr. Anita Khosla,Vice-Principal of the college administered the pledge to the faculty and students to uphold the democratic traditions of the country; and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections. They pledged to vote fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement. Students of all the streams took the pledge in their respective classrooms. Addressing the students on the occasion, Dr. Madhu Gupta, Head of Political Science Department and Nodal Officer of the Electoral Literacy Club of the college motivated the students to not only get themselves registered as a voter but also discharge the duty of exercising their vote. It is noteworthy that Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college was honoured today by the Election Department, Chandigarh Administration for the commendable contribution of the college towards generating voter literacy, verification of votes, and enrolment and registration of students as voters. The creative and imaginative potential of the students was on display in the Poster-making Competition on the theme “Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy”. The presentations covered a range of areas like free and fair elections, voting rights of the citizens, choosing the right candidate and generated awareness amongst the students. The Slogan-writing Competition showcased the awareness of the students on the issue of voters’ literacy, and the creativity was penned beautifully. The Nukkad Natakw as enjoyed and applauded by the audience. The play was presented in a comical and satirical form which conveyed the message and the students realised the significance of the theme.
