Seven Days Faculty Development Programme on Education and Pedagogy in the Times of Digital Humanities 9.01.2020 to 15.01.2020 Organized by IQAC, Departments of Philosophy and Psychology, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh in association with HRDC, Panjab University, under the aegis of RUSA, U.T., Chandigarh at PGGCG-11, Chandigarh (9-15 January, 2020)


A Seven Days Faculty Development Programme on the theme “Education and Pedagogy in the Times of Digital Humanities” concluded in Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh today. The Programme was organised by IQAC, Department of Philosophy and Department of Psychology of the college, in association with Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Panjab University, Chandigarh under the aegis of RUSA, UT Chandigarh. More than 40 delegates comprising faculty members of diverse disciplines from various educational institutions of the city participated. Dr. Renu Somal, Head, Department of Psychology and Dr. Ambuj Sharma, Head, Department of Philosophy, PGGCG-11, Chandigarh were the coordinators of the programme. Congratulating the organisers, Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college highlighted that the endeavour had achieved the objective of engagement of participants in a creative dialogue in understanding and reflecting on the idea of digital humanities and its impact on education and pedagogy in contemporary times. It will certainly enhance their teaching, learning and innovative skills; and subsequently help the students in improving their performance, she observed. In his Valedictory address, the Chief-guest, Sh. Rajesh Kochhar, Former Director, CSIR underlined the growing significance of information technology and digital medium in the disciplines of social sciences. He highlighted that it has made these subjects interesting and has also widened their horizons. In her Presidential address, Mrs. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Panjab University, Chandigarh stressed that the theme of the workshop was very relevant in the modern context. She motivated the young teachers to make use of the skills learnt during the Programme and incorporate them in the exercise of teaching. Earlier during the day, the participants made presentations on different facets of the theme and also provided a reflective and constructive feedback on the overall programme. The delegates benefitted immensely from the discourses of experts of international repute on a wide range of issue-areas related to philosophy, literature, technology, mathematics etc. The interactive sessions were a platform for sharing and reflection of views of the delegates on various dimensions.
