Finding Myself: My True Identity

The Department of Philosophy organised a students’ seminar on the topic, "Finding Myself: My True Identity on 13th October 2022 in room 203 in which thirty students actively participated. The seminar focused on issues concerning gender identity and its understanding. The session started with opening and itinerary of the event by the chairperson for the session, Diya Thakur (BAI). The speakers on the dias were Akshita Rana, Disha Walia, Nandni and Yuvika. The first speaker was Yuika. She talked about finding oneself through self-reflection and introspection. She also highlighted eight (8) ways of finding comfort and solace in solitude. The second speaker was Nandni, who elaborated on the contrasts drawn between the cultural practises to gender assigned. at birth and gender identity. She drew issues concerning social construct. And discussed in detail about the set of rules and expectations, heteronormative society often puts on individuals. The third speaker for the day was Akshita, she discussed about gender fluidity in general and androgyny in particular she also divulged on how gender influence people which are often subjected to marginalisation and subjugation. The last speaker, Disha Walia lamented on the meaning of gender and appreciated the concept of diversity and plurality in context to humans. She talked in detail.Disha's reflections were full of humorous anecdotes and satirical references engaging, that made the session even more live. The session was followed by detailed discussion among the participants and many significant questions were also raised on the occasion.
