The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of the college organised an extended interaction with a team of experts on the recent initiatives of Election Commision of India.. A team of experts from Election Commission of UT, Chandigarh addressed the students and faculty on the occasion. Welcoming the experts, in her opening remarks, Dr. Madhu Gupta, Nodal Officer (ELC) of the College, briefly explained the twin objectives of Election Commission of India – one is to ensure hundred percent enrolment of new voters, and the other is to verify and authenticate the details of existing voters on a dedicated portal of Election Commission of India. During the Workshop, the experts demonstrated features of National Voter's Service Portal (NVSP) towards verification and registeration of voters of India. The step-wise operation of the portal was explained and shown on the big screen before a capacity crowd of about 500 students. It was highlighted that how the portal would enable the youth above the age of 18 to enrol itself online and how the same portal can be accessed to verify details and also change them, if needed by the exisitng voters. The experts also briefed the students about the voter helpline App which they can download from Google Playstore. A live demonstration of the App was given on the occasion. On the occasion many students raised their problems in regard to the online registration and verification of their details. Many students also raised their concerns about not receiving their voter ID despite their submission of forms last year. The interaction of the experts was organized by the college to accelerate the process of enrolment of newly joined students, and also to help the existing voters to verify their details. The ELC plans to host such programmes in future too. The faculty an students of the Department of Philosophy also actively participated in the programme.
Samvad literally meaning a conversation or dialog is considered to be one of the most important and fundamental part of learning new information and gaining more Perspectives, Philosophy which is known as the mother of all social sciences ensures that there is an engagement and a constant set of dialog that is maintained continuously to keep students, teachers, facilitators and everybody engaged and discussing. Department of philosophy arranged a samvaad for students of 1st 2nd and 3rd year to interact and get to know each other better which was conducted on 4th of September 2019. Moderated by Poonam and Sukirti the event begin with the basic introduction of the reason of studying philosophy, and Eashani discussed the reasons for the gathering and how she implemented philosophy in her daily life. Muskaan further discussed the views of philosophy on personal experience which was also shared by Tanvi of BA 1and Ambika of BA 2. It didn't end here, students of BA 3rd year presented handmade cards as a sign of welcome and passing forward the legacy of engagement to students of BA 1 and 2. Adding to all the goodness there was a beautiful poem presentation of Maya Angelou which was presented by Kinjal of BA 1 and a self written poem by Harleen of BA 2. Added to that was a group song presentation by students of all the three years. The conversation was the main highlight of the event the Department of Philosophy introduced its counsel to the 1st and 2nd year, with beautiful thoughts and enchanting smiles the jolly day ended with a light snack which was shared by the students and it's so rightly said that sharing food isn't just sharing food but also sharing thoughts and emotions. In the end the event was wonderfully concluded by author and Head of the Department Dr Ambuj Sharma who gave his views on life and philosophy and also congratulated the students for organizing the event to encourage them to keep engaging and keep learning.
